This Yummy Dal is a quick, flavorful dal made with toor dal, tamarind, tomatoes, green chilies, and MM Masala for a spicy kick. Cooked in a pressure cooker, it's seasoned with mustard seeds, cumin, and curry leaves. Serve hot with rice and ghee or roti, and experiment with leafy vegetables like spinach or amaranth for a delicious variation.

Ingredients

For Yummy Dal:

  • Toor Dal – 1 cup
  • Tamarind – Lemon-sized piece (soaked)
  • Tomatoes – 2
  • Onion – Optional
  • Green Chillies – 3
  • Turmeric – ½ tsp
  • Salt – As per taste
  • Magic Ingredient – MM Masala – 2-3 tbsp (adjust to desired spice level)

Preparation

Yummy Dal in 3 Steps:

  • Chop the tomatoes, onions, and green chillies.
  • Add the toor dal, tamarind puree, and all other ingredients to a pressure cooker. Cook for 2-3 whistles, then turn off the heat.
  • Once the cooker has cooled, add the seasoning and serve hot with rice and ghee or with roti.
  • Alternatively, you can substitute the tomatoes with any leafy vegetables, such as spinach (palak), amaranth leaves, or pumpkin, for a quick and tasty dal.
